A tail of 2 Barns: Barn A

Some readers may remember waaaay back in October, that I visited potential new barns and decided to put Porsche at Barn A, a sight unseen co-op situation that was free for 6 mo. but had chores, while I put Tesla at Barn B - a facility in progress (which only had 1 opening as it was in the process of expanding).

Barn A has turned out to be a mixed bag....the facility is older and more rough than was portrayed. The barn roof is leaking, along with other issues (The owner told me she was only maintaining the barn, no upgrades....The stall Porsche was assigned to was flooded - the barn owner told me they didn't have any good ideas on how to fix it and basically threw up her hands in defeat (well I did - I used a shovel to dig a trench and drained that sloppy puddle down the hill thru another paddock, then filled the trench back in when I was done. Solved it, didn't take a committee ;).

The owner/manager doesn't really like horses, but bought a house with a working barn and decided she would run it as a business (did not know that apriori).

There was a barn planning meeting, complete with potluck dinner, and I misjudged the drive time/stop-and-grab-a-snack-cause-I-don't-have-a-real-kitchen-at-my-apartment and ended up being 15-20min. early. BO was so flustered at my early appearance, I ended up heading down to the barn to wait until 6:30. I gotta say that whole potluck was one of the most uncomfortable things I have been at in a while (and I work in science so my social awkwardness tolerance is pretty high, lol).

Ancient Barn Cat - Porsche slightly stepped on him accidentally, but he must have a few lives left and Alzheimers cause he was back hanging out in her stall the next day....<3

While I am thankful that Porsche has a place where she is safe and well-fed, this equestrian group just isn't my scene at all. Luckily, most nights when I do chores it is just me, B.C. and the horses who are good eggs (and the half-a-dozen passive aggressive post-its LOL).

  1. Umm. This sounds... not good. I hope it works out or you find another place though.

    1. It definitely is temporary, working on the next situation!

  2. I hope the other barn gets expanded quickly so you can get outta there! Sounds like maybe not the best place, but at least she's safe and fed. Those are the most important things.

    1. She is safe and eating well, and is happy there - so I can make it work for now

    1. Luckily it doesn't rain all that much here - hopefully that was a one-time occurrence! If not I have my trusty shovel LOL.
