I'm waiting on video/photos to finish up my Schoolmaster posts...but things have been eventful in the meantime!
When I went to pick Tesla's feet on Monday I was horrified to find a nail head in her back hoof.
I know that depending on where the nail is - you can do more harm than good by removing it, and as I was walking up the hill to get better reception to call the vet, I saw Trainer J. and went over to ask for assistance. Even tho' I haven't ridden with her in some time, she was super sweet, and came down to check out what had happened. The nail head was HUGE - and I actually didn't know how deep it went!
It was placed in a safe position to remove, so Trainer J. pulled it out, and then I soaked the hoof and Betadined the area.
You can see the hole it left!
I let the BM know - and even took him the nail. He promised to have the barn guys do a sweep with the magnet roller around Tesla's paddock (where I think she picked it up)
Even tho' there was a CARPENTRY NAIL IN HER HOOF - it was in the best possible place - and thus far, she hasn't taken an off step. I'll continue soaking and cleaning, and fingers crossed it causes no further issues and grows out just fine :)
